Modern Restroom Remodel
Dated restrooms at the Apostolic Christian Church were in need of a serious update both in design and accessibility. I was asked to lead a committee of five church members to design and select finishes for the new facilities. To keep a timeless look, a neutral color palate was selected. The main tile for the walls has a linen texture that softens the look of an otherwise hard surface. A grayed faux-wood ceramic tile was used on the floor for durability and ease of cleaning. To pay homage to the column structure found throughout the church's colonial exterior, a three-dimensional wave pattern tile was strategically placed in vertical "columns" on the walls. I built custom walnut-veneered, floating vanities that provided warm tones to contrast the chic engineered quartz tops. The marble-like tops were installed with trough sinks and hands-free, chrome faucets and soap dispensers by Sloan. To highlight the vanities, I designed a large floating mirror that uses LED backlight to create a beautiful, ambient centerpiece for each restroom. I utilized SketchUp to model each vanity and provide concept art to the rest of the committee.
