An Information Commons is BornSeeing a need for a one-stop shop for student needs, The Ohio State University Mansfield commissioned architecture firm "Design Group" to bring a dated library into the technology-driven era. Mixing traditional library services with modern technology-driven initiatives, the Bromfield Library and Information Commons (BLIC) would become the crowning jewel of the campus. For this project, I played a key role in FF&E selections and led the design of technology integration throughout the new facility.

Public ComputingFrom on-the-run bar top seating to spacious workstations, public computing areas were designed with the student in mind. All-in-one computers with touch displays enable a low footprint to maximize desk space. Articulating arms with spring-tensioned hinges allow easy adjustments to place the display in a comfortable position for each user. Chairs were carefully selected to provide comfort and style while highlighting the accent colors of the renovation's color palette.

Group Study RoomsPrivate study spaces for small-group work has become increasingly popular at colleges and universities. The BLIC project housed a total of 6 group study rooms, each of which required equipment. I developed a simple housing for a room PC & laptop port and installed 55-inch screens for each system. For user control, students have the option to check-out wireless keyboards with trackpads from library circulation or utilize multi-touch overlays attached to each display.

Library Instruction ClassroomDesigned with library instruction and computer demonstration in mind, this space is equipped with an interactive whiteboard and an auxiliary display for showing additional content. All-in-one PCs are equipped with articulating stands, improving sight lines for students trying to see the room projections.

Faculty Media Center and StudioA space dedicated for the development of instructional media, this room houses several high-end PCs and Macs, a large format printer, and a small recording studio. The studio was designed for lecture recording and has been acoustically treated for professional-level audio. A drop-down green screen was added for faculty who are seeking to develop more in-depth and creative content for their classes. Adjustable LED track lighting ensures flexible, quality lighting for video.
