Bringing Interiors Outside
This residential backyard canopy structure was designed to replace a freestanding metal and fabric canopy on the resident's existing deck. The design also needed to incorporate a lattice structure for the home owner's climbing plants in the adjacent garden. I designed a concept model using 3D CAD software in order to bring my vision to life. The new structure would feature large cedar columns and beams as well as a shingled roof and a bamboo ceiling with a teak finish. The lattice inserts were designed to bring a contemporary element to the space and provide some privacy while maintaining an open environment. Wooded slats were added to the opposite ends of the roofline to incorporate a pergola-feel while also helping to support a recessed gutter. A weathered ceiling fan and can lighting compliment the stunning wood grains on on the plank ceiling. Low voltage landscape lights were strategically placed to highlight the lattice inserts and create a dramatic, yet inviting, atmosphere after dusk.
